It’s my absolute pleasure to introduce a series of videos I’m going to call “In Conversation”, where I’ll be in conversation with women that I think are doing and saying important or interesting things in the world of the Terven.
This first Conversation is with Helen Staniland, whom you may know from “The Mess We’re In”, a weekly YouTube chat on Graham Linehan’s YouTube channel, which she has co-hosted since appearing on his channel as a guest.
Helen also originated the eponymous Question that really cuts to the heart of the demands of the trans movement, and is very rarely answered by our opponents.
Helen crowdfunded to commission a professional polling company to determine the public’s perception of the trans movement; a really important step for UK women.
Significantly, this was one of the first examples of the residents of Terf Island crowdfunding to achieve a political goal.
FairPlayForWomen hosted the results of the polling, and contributed their analysis. The conclusion was that there was not the level of support for the aims of the transgender movement, that activists claimed.
YouGov later polled similar questions, and Helen compared the results of both polls, on Twitter.
I’ve known Helen through Twitter since my early days as a Terf, back when it sometimes seemed as if we would shout into the void. As Helen states in the video, there were several women already fighting, when we joined the fight: Julie Bindel, Sarah Ditum, and Glosswitch, to name just a few. Now, it feels different. We are still fighting on many fronts; but there we are legion. It feels hopeful that despite those battles we have yet to win, the long arc of history will bend back towards reality.
Helen has remained as intelligent, warm, and compassionate as she ever was, throughout the fight. I’m proud to fight at her side, and hope to be able to buy her a drink in a pub very soon.

Part 2 of my Conversation with Helen Staniland will be uploaded to YouTube tomorrow; the accompanying Substack will follow imminently.
Thank you so much for watching!
